The annals of history of the Motion Picture business in the United States are made historically significant, on a world wide level, because of the presence of Mary Pickford and Charles Champlin. These Hollywood personages are noted with fondness throughout the world. They started the motion picture business which has enjoyed global recognition in every country on the planet. It is difficult to realize how significantly they impacted every area of life in the United States; however, it is not a reach to say that they were the epitome of what it meant to be a star in Hollywood. Now, I find, to my deepest chagrin, that developers want to totally obliterate any acknowledgement of these stalwart legends in their haste to demolish the buildings from which their greatest accomplishments originated.
This would be grievously tampering with the hallowed history of Hollywood. This is totally unnecessary development on the part of CIM developers. Indeed, they have forgotten, if they ever knew, of the tremendous cultural significance of these beacons of motion picture history. I strongly encourage the West Hollywood City Council members to firmly resist the efforts by these developers by every means at their disposal.
The reasons are varied and many.
There is a certain inviolable unity that has been transferred to succeeding generations by the people who set the ball in motion to have a studio that would serve the entire world and be located in the heart of the Entertainment District, HOLLYWOOD.
This studio, The Goldwyn Studio, is every much a part of the global community as is Paramount Studios, MGM, and Warner Brothers. This is a place which has seen the legends of the motion picture industry call their stomping grounds, their home, the place by which they were able to create magnificent films to serve as a testimonial to the stories that the world thoroughly enjoyed and continues to enjoy today, through ongoing retrospectives and testimonials.
There is a certain disdain for History that the present generation entertains that does not do justice to succeeding generations who DO have the sense of historical imperative and fondness for the things of the past that The Goldwyn Studio represents.
It is a place that reeks of history, replete with the GOLDEN AGE of Cinema in the United States, and, concomitantly, revered around the world.
It is an institution, a sanctified, hallowed, HOLY GROUND which should have had HISTORICAL PRESERVATION STATUS CONFERRED UPON THEM DECADES AGO by the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Every country in the world would have given their eye teeth to be in the enviable position of being known as the birthplace, so to speak, of Mary Pickford, Charles Champlin, and the veritable pantheon of STARS of the highest magnitude who sauntered about the studio in the early days of film production.
It is a place where the legends, the significant writers, producers, directors, and stars of Hollywood, lovingly called home.
There does not appear to have been sufficient time or inclination to get community feedback to decide whether to allow the CIM corporation of developers to have unfettered access to this HISTORICAL LANDMARK, this place where world wide films were made, produced, mixed, and sent into the world. It was a milestone in the life of Hollywood. Now, it will be bulldozed into oblivion, it seems; however, I know that this should NOT take place. It is an injustice to the rights of the people of the world. It is an ASSAULT on the SENSIBILITES of the HOLLYWOOD COMMUNITY.
It is further evidence of the critical need to sharply curtail the rampant and voracious appetites of developers who only see the need to build and build on every accessible section of land in the city of Los Angeles and Hollywood. This move by CIM Developers, shrewd, cunning, and devilishly clever, merely makes it abundantly and manifestly clear, that the awarding of contracts to build upon land that is sanctified, venerable, historical ground will be examined with a fine tooth comb the next time that requests are made to develop properties in HOLLYWOOD DISTRICT 13.
There are immensely needy areas of Los Angeles that have been sorely in need of redevelopment for the past 45 years. There is ample opportunity for those builders to construct well designed, well planned construction in areas of the City of Los Angeles that are distant from Hollywood. In this way, there would be a viable and constructive viaduct and eager conduit for customers, in a sense, that would flow to Hollywood, frequent the small businesses of Hollywood, enjoy the ambience of Hollywood, and contribute to the enjoyment of our community on a GLOBAL LEVEL.
This is the MECCA and SUMMIT of the Entertainment industry, so to speak.
The existing Hollywood business community's places of business have sorely lacked the attention and refurbishment that the City of Los Angeles should willingly and gladly extend to them.
SIDEWALKS should and MUST be steam cleaned along Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard EVERY night so that Hollywood continues to be a sparkling jewel, in a very real sense.
Storefronts that need it should be repainted, refurbished, and brought up to the standards that the owners expect.
There MUST be at least one outdoor RESTROOM per every city block in Hollywood. The demands of nature insist upon this and, so too, do WE!
There MUST be PADDED Bus Seats on EVERY Metropolitan Rapid Transit bus that conform to the beautifully padded and comfortable buses on the BLUE LINE, SANTA MONICA and the CULVER CITY BUSES.
There MUST be PADDED BENCHES for Metropolitan Rapid Transit District customers at EVERY BUS STOP in HOLLYWOOD AND THE CITY OF L.A.!
There MUST be an OVERHANG at EACH BUS STOP to protect our VALUED CUSTOMERS from the heat of the sun and the drops of occasional rain!
There MUST be a POSTED SCHEDULE of arrival AND DEPARTURE times of Metro Rapid Transit buses on EVERY city block in Hollywood! Bar None!
The same care for the elderly and disabled that exists in the FAIRFAX District of Los Angeles must be initiated in HOLLYWOOD. Specifically, on the Jewish High Holy Days, street lights are timed so that those who need extra time to cross the street, are given more time.
The same attention that is given to the Jewish Senior Citizens and respect for Jewish High Holy Days must be given to the Esteemed and equally Valuable, Vulnerable, and Venerable Senior Citizens in Hollywood District 13. In addition, the same considerate treatment MUST be extended throughout Los Angeles since the Standard of Care has been set so remarkably well and works exceedingly, marvelously well in the FAIRFAX District.

or totally eliminated, if the needs and concerns of the Neighborhood Councils are not addressed responsibly, equitably, and fairly.
The overriding concerns regarding the environmental impact, as well as heavier concentrations of people and traffic will also play major roles in this analysis of WHETHER or NOT redevelopment in the Hollywood District 13 is beneficial or detrimental.
In all cases, the long term effect of increased population models will be fully examined by using current, state of the art information that can be obtained rather easily from UCLA and many other nationally known universities and researchers who have studied this problem in depth.
The IMPETUS and INPUT of NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS will be fully entertained, since it is the NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS of the City of Los Angeles who know exactly where they want development to take place in their neighborhoods.

SPIELBERG AND I SHOOK HANDS, THEN HE IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO TELL SILVERS ABOUT THE MONSTROUS CONTRACT THAT HE HAD JUST SIGNED WITH SIDNEY SHEINBERG, STUDIO CHIEF AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS.
I LISTENED.
I HAD MET TOBY HOOPER IN A HOTEL ROOM IN HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA, WITH A FRIEND OF MINE , CORKY COOPER, A YOUNG LADY FROM TEXAS WHO WAS INTERESTED IN BECOMING AN EDITOR. I WAS WORKING ON GORDON PARKS' FILM "LEADBELLY" FOR PARAMOUNT PICTURES AS THE FIRST ASSISTANT EDITOR AND PROJECTIONIST ON THIS LOCATION PICTURE FROM 1974 - 1975.
THE HOTEL ROOM THAT I MET THE ILLUSTRIOUS FILM DIRECTOR, TOBY HOOPER, DIRECTOR OF "POLTERGEIST," EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY THE ILLUSTRIOUS, INTREPID, MR. STEVEN SPIELBERG, DARLING OF THE LEFT WING IN CERTAIN POLITICAL CIRCLES IN THE UNITED STATES IS THE WORLD FAMOUS "HUDSON APARTMENTS," LOCATED AT 6533 HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD. AND FELTON PERRY, SO THAT JOEL FREEMAN, PRODUCER OF "THE FUZZ BROTHERS" COULD ADD TO HIS BOTTOM LINE PROFITS.

MICHAEL KAHN CALLED MY MOM TO GET MY PHONE NUMBER IN WASHINGTON, D.C. WHEN I WAS TRYING TO GET THE FINANCIAL GREEN LIGHT FOR THE GO AHEAD FOR AARON STELL'S "YOU GOTTA HAVE A LITTLE LUCK."
AARON STELL WAS THE FILM EDITOR FOR "TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD," GREGORY PECK WAS THE STAR.
IN TOTAL, MICHAEL KAHN CALLED ME 3 TIMES. I REFUSED MICHAEL KAHN 3 TIMES.
I REFUSED TO WORK ON A STEVEN SPIELBERG FILM AND I HAD NO PARTICULAR DESIRE NOR INCLINATION TO WORK AGAIN WITH MICHAEL KAHN.
FINALLY, I CAME TO MY SENSES, IN A CERTAIN SENSE, AND CALLED MICHAEL KAHN TO LET HIM KNOW THAT I WOULD ACCEPT HIS KIND AND GRACIOUS OFFER.

Killer of Sheep: The Charles Burnett Collection (DVD)
I started my educational career at UCLA in the History and Sociology departments from 1966 - 1971.
I met Charles Burnett one early morning as he was headed to the north campus, Theater Arts & Motion Picture area in 1968 after I had returned to the United States from Sierra Leone, West Africa on the Operation Crossroads Africa program. I was headed to the southern part of the campus, toward the Engineering Department. One of my roommates, Alfonzo Nelson, Regent's Scholar in the Engineering Department at UCLA, was working on a project and I wanted to see what was involved.
Charles asked me to help him as a member of a jury that he would be shooting the following morning at 7:00 am. That was a bit early for me, since I had my first classes beginning at noon; nevertheless, I told him that I would be there. As it turned out, I was the only member of the 12 person jury who showed up as scheduled. Charles and I became friends from that point in 1968 to the present.
I made a Project 1 student film at the UCLA Film School. Charles Burnett was my Director of Photography and Cameraman.
I wrote, produced, directed and edited it. The film was "69 Pickup." We made it on the corner of Adams and Western Avenue and the house of Gladys Barnett, one of my Mom's Friends, at 2906 South Western Avenue, my apartment in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969.
It dealt with an invasion of privacy among 2 young men and a young woman.
I joined the motion picture division because I had met Charles and I felt that this would be a good vehicle for me to present my work as a writer on the worldwide, international stage.
I GAVE Charles my Honda Super 90 Classic motorcycle when his car broke down so that he could get to UCLA classes sometime after that. Charles asked me to help him make "My Brother's Wedding" since he had gotten $75,000.00 in camera money from ZDF in Germany to conduct camera tests. Charles asked me if I thought that we could make a color feature film with the money rather than camera tests. I said that I would see what we could do. I contacted a friend of mine, Ruth Marshall, who worked for Earl Williman, the head of the Electrical Department for Lorimar Pictures. Earl "Pee Wee," promised to help us make the film. He gave us many lights and arranged for Lorimar to sell us film at a big discount. We used "short ends." Since the picture took 2 years, Lorimar eventually dropped the price of the film stock even further, finally amounting to about 6 cents a foot.
Charles used my home at 1607 Wellington Road in the Lafayette Square district for 2/3 of his movie. He asked me to play a "Dead Body in a Coffin," as a cameo role in addition to my other roles as Production Manager and Film Editor. I used all of the members of my family as extras in "My Brother's Wedding." I also let Charles use my 1974 Porsche red Alfa Romeo inizione 2000 convertible as a "picture car" when Pierce, the lead character in the film, has to find his way from the funeral to the wedding and winds up being late for both events.
Charles asked me to help him on Several Friends as well as The Horse, and Killer of Sheep. I gave him a bit of help on the first two films; however, I had a heavy time commitment at MGM during the time that he was shooting Killer of Sheep. I asked my sister, Christine Penick, to help him in the sound area. Incidentally, this was the first time that she had worked on a film. She knew nothing about sound. She has since turned into a fine still photographer. Her specialty is Women's Judo.
Christine Penick Lincoln is one of the highest ranked and most universally revered Women's Judoists in the world.
Several decades ago, she was awarded one of the highest Black Belts for women in Judo circles. She is now a highly respected Judo Sensei, instructor.
I had a VHS copy of "My Brother's Wedding,"but it began to deteriorate. It greatly pleased me to buy it on DVD when Milestone re-issued My Brother's Wedding. I spent 2 years with Charles on the making of My Brother's Wedding, and, yes, there were many memories.
This was the 2ND feature film that I had worked on as a Film Editor.
The first feature film that I edited was Mr. Jamaa Fanaka's "EMMA MAE," at MGM in 1975.
My experience had been as an Assistant Film Editor for Ralph E. Winters, A.C.E. - 2 time Academy Award Winner in Film Editing for "King Solomon's Mines," and "Ben Hur," directed by William Wyler, and Henry Berman, A.C.E., Academy Award Winner in Film Editing for "Grand Prix," and Film Editor of "Gunga Din." Both of these outstanding Film Editors, Mentors and Friends asked for me on multiple assignments at MGM at the beginning of my career in editing.
These 2 absolutely fine and highly intelligent gentlemen also happened to be my Friends as well as my Teachers in film editing and life...
I invited Henry Berman to my parent's home for a party that I gave soon after I had worked with him. He brought his wife, Rosemary. They had a great time on the dance floor at my parent's home. At the end of the party, Henry Berman danced all the way from my parents' home to his car.
I smiled.
In 1979, when I was working at Warner Brothers on Ken Russell of England and Paddy Chayefsky's "ALTERED STATES" as the 1st Assistant Film Editor, first person hired in Post Production and the absolutely last person terminated from "Altered States" at its conclusion, by Producer Howard Gottfried on 22 August 1980, I gave a party at my home at 1607 Wellington Road in the La Fayette Square around Christmas.
I invited Michael Kahn, Steven Spielberg's exclusive Film Editor. He asked me if he could bring his assistant, Charles Bornstein. I said, 'YES." Michael Kahn brought his wife, Chickie, and Charles Bornstein to my home at 1607 Wellington Road in the La Fayette Square and I began to dance.
Michael Kahn, Chickie, and Charles Bornstein watched me dance. They were absolutely stunned!
They did not know that I control the dance.
There were many other absolutely astonishing film editors that I worked for and with . . . with pleasure.
Foremost among these outstanding Film Editors, Teachers, and Friends was Hugh Chaloupka, A.C.E. Film Editor of Poland. He saw me working day and night with Michael Kahn on the Louis Gossett, Jr., Felton Perry Televison Pilot: The Fuzz Brothers at MGM on the hour version and the 1/2 version and specifically asked for me to work as his 1st Assistant Film Editor on the MGM series, "Adam's Rib," starring Ken Howard and Blythe Danner, based on the classic "ADAM'S RIB" feature film starring the incomparable Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn.
Joel Freeman and J.D.F. Black were the producers of "The Fuzz Brothers." J.D.F. Black was also the writer, having worked on Ivan Dixon's "Trouble Man" at 20th Century Fox with Joel Freeman. Michael Kahn had me listed as his 1st Assistant Film Editor on "Trouble Man" and I did not see the light of day at 20th Century Fox on the picture and, in fact, was not working; however, the trades "Variety," and "The Hollywood Reporter" had me listed as Kahn's Assistant Film Editor as a smoke screen to deflect the attention of the N.A.A.C.P. National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
The following year, Hugh Chaloupka asked me to join him at Columbia Pictures on the American Indian Sheriff television show, "Nakia." David Gerber was the Executive Producer. Naturally, I accepted Hugh Chaloupka's generous and kind offer since he was the top Film Editor at MGM in television.
Hugh Chaloupka, A.C.E. and I were the #1 Editing Team at MGM and the #1 Editing Team at Columbia Pictures, in television, bar none!
I was The Trailer Editor for Domestic Television Syndication @ MGM Studios from 1975 - 1978.
I was the 1st Assistant Film Editor and Location Projectionist for Gordon Parks' "Leadbelly" from 1974 - 1975 at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood.
Gordon Parks also asked me to act in "Leadbelly," as an onlooker at the "Sukey Jump" dance number near the beginning of the picture.
I'm primarily a writer. I've made many experimental, short and long form mini digital films since 2003. My first film was made in 1969 at UCLA. Then, I took a Super 8 mm. film, "Pohop," to the 1990 Berlin Film Festival in dailies form. In 1983 I made a one minute trailer of "Hurry, Cane Season." I wrote, produced, directed, and edited "Hurry, Cane Season." I was also the star of "Hurry, Cane Season." This was a 35 mm color film, 1 minute in length. MGM made the titles, compliments of Bob Schaeffer, head of the title department at MGM.
Charles Burnett was my Cameraman & Director of Photography for "Hurry, Cane Season," as well as "69 Pickup."
In 1999 I made "The Arsonist" in 16 mm. color. It is a 90 minute feature film and it is a W.I.P. Work in Progress.
In 2003 I made "The Backyard" for an Ivory Coast novelist, Sebastian Dehi, after I completely re-wrote 5 of his scripts over the preceding 2 years. Dehi is still editing the film that I directed in 2003 - 2005. I have no idea why . . .
I then realized that I had best make my own films. I continue to write since I do it well.
I anticipate publishing all of my creative work by 2014.
Since this was Charles' first 35 mm. film, he wasn't used to the pacing of 35 mm. He had made 16 mm. films and the film movement was a lot different from 35 mm. Charles initially told me to play the scenes out, let each scene run long.
Eventually, on my own, I made many deep trims in scenes otherwise "My Brother's Wedding" would have been a much longer film. I was disappointed in the acting throughout the picture. When I read Charles' script prior to beginning the film, I was quite excited.
After Charles interviewed many potential actors for the lead role of "Pierce" in "My Brother's Wedding," I re-read the script with a fine tooth comb, so to speak, and told Charles that I could play the lead role of "Pierce," without any problem, whatsoever.
At that point, Charles said that he was looking for someone with "long fingers." A few more long weeks elapsed. Finally, Charles selected Everett Silas.
After initially agreeing to the money that he would be paid by Burnett, Silas worked for a month or so and then demanded more money. Charles came to me and asked whether he should pay him more or lose him. I told Charles that if Everett Silas did not honor his contract, FIRE HIM, stop shooting and find someone who WOULD work for the price that Burnett offered. At that point, Silas returned to work. Two years elapsed, 1983 - 1985.
I think that Mr. Charles Burnett should re-make the project and have someone else pick the cast as a casting director.
I had been keeping in touch with Gordon Parks and Charles Burnett; however, Mr. Parks passed in March of 2007.
He sent me an autographed copy of his book, "HALF PAST AUTUMN," 2 years before his death.
Mr. Parks called me at my apartment on 14 December 2007 and wanted me to visit him whenever I came to New York.
I still communicate often with Charles.
I have always thought that Charles Burnett is a filmmaker par excellence!
In every area of filmmaking he has known exactly what he was doing and how he wants to do it.
He adds tremendously to existing ideas with his own perspectives and ways of seeing. There is no one like him in the world of filmmaking.
If anything, he needs a great casting director, I feel, and also, more importantly, a viable budget for the marketing of his creative works.
This has been something that he sorely needs in order for the audience to fully appreciate his films.
I saw "Annihilation of Fish" and I thought that it was his best film, technically.
My only problem with "Annihilation" was the choice of title.
I seriously doubt that the people who would see this film fully understood what "annihilation" means, thus they would not go to see it.
Annihilation means SLAUGHTER . . . EXTERMINATION.
Charles asked me to alert my circle of friends about this film.
I did so.
None of them showed up, merely the members of my family.
Charles is very good at listening with the utmost patience and putting forth what he wants to see happen on the screen. He usually does everything on his films, loading the camera, shooting the camera, setting up all of the lights, carrying everything, driving the truck, etc.
Perhaps his finest actor, in my opinion, was his brother, Andy Burnett. The only problem with Andy was that he didn't realize how skilled and talented his brother Charles was. In my opinion, if Andy had been able to contain his irascible nature, he would have been another James Dean. I say that in all seriousness.
Andy was that good.
Charles was also very attentive to his grandmother and mother when I knew him in the 1960's. He took photographs of his grandmother that were something that Gordon Parks would have envied.
As far as working with actors, Charles always sought to have them portray their characters without relying on stereotypes. He fought against them doing things the way that Hollywood traditionally does things. He was always seeking fresh outlooks, fresh perspectives, new ways of seeing and thinking.
I doubt that Charles Burnett was interested in the good or the bad guys, rather he would try to explore the common humanity of people in all of the films that he has done. This is rare. It shows someone who is really interested in the human condition and what makes everyone "tick."

I have many interests, as you will note in my introductory blog.
I prioritize as often as possible.
I will go into more detail, become more specific, in this particular blog.
I'm a writer. I write what there is that needs to be written. I put pen to paper in any way, style, shape, form, or construction, as suits my purpose.
I directed 5 mini Digital feature films - 60 minutes in length in 1983. I'm beginning another series of mini Digital films entitled: "Prelude: Hum Harper," that I'll begin on July 31st, 2005. All of these films will usher my creative work into the global international film festival circuit from 2006 - 2007.
I entered a Super 8 mm. film entitled: "Pohop," at the Berlin Film Festival in 1990.
"Pohop," is an interesting title: It means, "From the poorhouse, to the outhouse, to home, home, to the outhouse, to the penthouse, or the "panthouse," if you will, depending on your perspective, mood or sense of humor. I had varied reactions to my film. 2 individuals were interested in financing me further, but other events militated against their doing so. Nevertheless, I didn't let this stop me. I still need to complete some shooting on Pohop as well as edit it and it will be another element of the filmic puzzle.
"Prelude: Hum Harper," stars Mr. Bob Mitchell, founder of Mitchell's Boys Choir, "Choir to the Stars."
He will discuss Eddie Cantor and Frank Sinatra, as well as Mitchell's soloist, my brother, Frederick Warren Penick. Fred is no longer with us; however, Marlo Thomas requested that he sing at her wedding to Phil Donahue. He sang like a lark, did my brother Fred. I know that he'll be quite curious as to how well I hum in "Prelude: Hum Harper."
Actually, this project examines the limits of the feature film style and approach even though it starts out as a rather innocuous documentary wherein 2 men, Mr. Mitchell and myself, discuss our lives. Naturally, I tell Mr. Mitchell that I plan to re-enter the film business in a "Heavyweight Way."
His response is that I hum.
It is a gentle reminder to do something small and well and then gradually move up into the big budgeted world of filmmaking from whence I came.
There are some aspects of the film that will be reminiscent of the Italian Neo-Realistic cinema.
Since I graduated from UCLA with Charles Burnett, not too much has been done in this area; although Charles was the Director of Photography and Cameraman for my Project 1 film at UCLA.
I still have my regular 8 mm. film. It is called "69 Pick-up." I Produced it, Directed it, Wrote it, and Edited it.
I had a rather illustrious career in the film business from 1972 - 1987.
Perhaps the highlight of my editing occurred when I worked as Michael Kahn's First Assistant Editor on 3 successive pictures. Michael begged me to work on Steven Spielberg's film, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." I turned Mike down 3 times before I finally came to my senses when I was in D.C. trying to direct a project called, "You Gotta Have A Lot of Luck," that an editor friend of mine, Aaron Stell, had given to me so that I could direct it. Aaron Stell was the Film Editor for Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird," starring Gregory Peck.
I must say that the ACTUAL highlight of my career was spent in the highly enjoyable company of Mr. Gordon Parks, Sr. on "Leadbelly," his finest film in 1974 - 1975, BAR NONE! CASE CLOSED! PERIOD!
I never did develop much interest in "You Gotta Have a Little Luck," screenplay by Aaron Stell, even though it was a terrific story.
The Presbyterian Economic Development Conference Organization, PEDCO, was highly interested in making a foray into motion picture production after they saw Ossie Davis' film "Countdown to Kusini." Two of their front men met me in Washington D.C. when I was promoting LeRoi McDonald's feature film, "Tuskeegee, Subject 626," and wanted me to connect with their board in Washington, D.C. to pitch "You Gotta Have a Little Luck."
I flew to Washington, D.C. They never showed up. This was a total waste of my time and money. Never again! CASE CLOSED! PERIOD!
I spent a lot of time flying from the West Coast to the East Coast. Incidentally, I did fall in love with a young lady, a Pan Am stewardess, while I was in D.C. That was a HUGE PLUS, since I met her lovely Family in the process and enjoyed them tremendously as they did with me.
I had driven my Porsche Red Alfa Romeo Spyder Inizione 2000 Convertible from L. A. to D.C. in 3 days, averaging 800 miles a day, because I couldn't wait to see her again.
Maybe this was the underlying reason that I passed on "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," perhaps it was a contributing reason, I must confess.
I spent 2 years helping Charles Burnett get his first 35 mm. color feature film, "My Brother's Wedding," off the ground, produced and edited. I was his production manager, film editor and I played a cameo role as a "dead body in a coffin." I always felt that I should have acted in Charles' film in the lead role. Charles wanted, essentially, someone with long fingers. You'll have to be the judge of my acting ability since I do quite a bit of it in the films that you'll see on the international film circuit starting around February of 2006. The names of the projects: "The Assistant," "The Cane Collection," "Prelude: Hum Harper," "We are Friends," "Backyard Blues," "Stalkin' Aye," and an assortment of shorts.
These are all hand made, personal films that have no special effects. Most of the talent are friends of mine from the arduously long, hot summer of 2003 when I directed an aspiring producer from the Ivory Coast, Sebastian Dehi's script, "The Backyard." Dehi told me that everyone was producing his picture but he needed me to direct it. This moved me so much that I decided to leave my humble abode, the place that I call home, and set about bringing his vision to life. I wound up doing more on the picture than I thought I would be doing, even operating the mini DV camera on many occasions.
Well, it's getting late, Charles Burnett is directing a feature film in Namibia, Africa with Danny Glover of Lethal Weapon fame and Carl Lumbly is in the leading role. From what Burnett tells me, the project is about Freedom Fighters. The country of Namibia shut down the production for a month and I understand that the producers didn't pay the talent or the crew; however, Charles is now shooting in northern Namibia and I'll speak with him around the first week of August, 2005. I should have finished principal photography on "Prelude: Hum Harper," by August 3rd, 2005. Stay tuned to further developments on that front as I plan to update this column regularly, depending on the response from all of you in the nether world of the galaxy.

I received a personal invitation by Mark A. Rothman – Executive Director - to view the exhibits at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust on 15 August 2012 at 3:00 PM in Pan Pacific Park in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles.
I made sure that I would be dressed appropriately because this is important. I wore my steel gray double stitched business suit. I put on a gray and black tie. I wore a black shirt, SAS black shoes, and white socks. Of course, I wore my red pendant with 2 black seeds and 1 green seed designed by Abraham of Hollywood.
I remembered to leave my red Swiss Army knife at home, as well as my black, green, and blue cigarette lighters, Minolta Auto Light Meter, and finger nail clippers.
I wore my brown felt Champ Fedora hat with the tiny green feather perched jauntily in the brown band of my Fedora.
I arrived at Pan Pacific Park on time; however, I thought that the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust was closer to 3rd Street rather than Beverly Boulevard; therefore, I actually arrived at 3:15 PM rather than my scheduled time of 3:00 PM. I was not happy about being late, especially since I had 2 weeks advance notice from Sarah, one of Mark A. Rothman’s Assistants.
In the scorching heat of the day, I walked about ½ of a mile across a field in Pan Pacific Park to get to the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust.
My forehead was pouring with sweat under my brown Fedora.
Twice, I wiped away the perspiration.
Finally, I saw the Museum of the Holocaust.
Although I had visited the perimeter 10 years ago, it seemed that it had changed since that time. It seemed to be lower to the earth. I had remembered it as towering high.
At any rate, I entered, told the guard my name, and waited for the arrival of Mark A. Rothman.
At 3: 18 PM, Mark strode over to where I was sitting. Immediately, I knew that he was the person that I had come to see.
I rose from my seat and we shook hands.
He thoughtfully offered me a cup of water because the sweat was pouring down my forehead.
I graciously accepted his kind offer.
I relinquished my brown Fedora hat for safekeeping.
Mark placed my Fedora in his inner sanctum.
The tour began.
I had done a certain amount of research on the History of the Jewish people when I worked with many Jewish Film Editors in the motion picture business in the 1970's.
I discovered much more at the Museum of the Holocaust than I had ever imagined.
I had read “The Story of Anne Frank” in the 1950’s in Cleveland, Ohio. Subsequently, I assigned the story to one of my students, Estee Byun, when she needed to build upon her store of knowledge.
She was eternally grateful for this recommendation and she learned a great deal about the culture of the Jewish people as a result of my efforts on her behalf.
Estee is from South Korea.
The Bergen Belsen concentration camp was familiar to me since that is where Anne Frank’s Family was placed during Adolph Hitler’s forced relocation and slaughter of the 6 million Jewish people beginning in the mid to late 1930's in Germany and continuing throughout World War II, 1940 - 1944.
What I discovered in the tour that was given by Mark A. Rothman was that the absolute horrors that the Jewish people have undergone is captured poignantly and the atrocities of man's inhumanity to man are indelibly etched forever into one’s consciousness and are sealed deeply into one's unconsciousness. This is to say, that the views of human beings, Jews, stacked like pieces of wood, one on top of the other, gassed, frozen to death, murdered wantonly, viciously and maliciously by Nazis under the command of Adolph Hitler and his cohorts and legions of soldiers and SS troops, causes nightmares, shudders, and an unbelievable outrage and mind numbing shock that this was done to a people merely because they were Jews.
I sat for a few minutes inside a boxcar that was used to transport the Jewish people. I could intuitively feel the immense pain of those who were placed there.
Tears began to course slowly down my face.
I touched the barbed wire that covered the windows and knew that this was touching places in the boxcar that others had touched on the way to the death camps. This was vicariously experiencing an infinitesimally small part of the trials and horrendous lives of the slain Jewish people, absolutely heartbreaking.
I took many notes.
The security guard at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust came to me at 5:00 PM to let me know that the Museum had closed.
For me, time had no meaning.
The streaks on my cheeks, I wiped quickly away.
I highly recommend that the visits of children, adults, and interested stakeholders in Los Angeles commence immediately and that the lessons that can be gleaned from the viewing and total immersion of the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust be incorporated into the cultural and educational systems of all those who care about social justice and enhancing the value of life globally, immediately.

OUI, au Président de la République française, le président américain, le président russe et le président de l'Ukraine. Vous êtes le premier président et le seul qui a pris le temps d'envoyer un signé, personnel, note de remerciement. Je chérirai ce geste de vous et de monsieur François Hollande, le reste de ma vie.
Je vais porter une attention particulière à l'évolution de votre pays.
En 2018, je vais courir pour le bureau du sénateur américain de Californie. À l'heure actuelle, c'est la position de Diane Feinstein, mais j'ai besoin de son siège. Je vais le prendre comme un candidat indépendant, non alignés soit avec le parti démocrate ou du parti républicain.
De cette façon, peut-être, je peux vous aider à sortir de l'impasse qui prend régulièrement lieu lorsque l'une ou l'autre partie prend le contrôle du Sénat des États-Unis.

I am pleased to receive your acknowledgement of my poetry book. I sent the same book of poetry...YES, to the President of the French Republic, the U.S. President, the Russian President and the President of the Ukraine. You are the first and only President who has taken the time to send a signed, personal, thank you note. I will treasure this gesture from you and from sir Francois Hollande, the rest of my life.
I will pay close attention to the developments in your country.
In 2022, I will run for the office of United States Senator from California, Mayor of the City of Los Angeles, or Governor of the State of California. At the moment, this is Dianne Feinstein's position in the United States Senate; however, I need her seat, or the seat of Barbara Boxer. I will take either of these 2 fine Senators seat as an INDEPENDENT candidate, non aligned with either the Democratic party or the Republican party.
In this way, perhaps, I can help to break the impasse that regularly takes place when one or the other party takes control of the United States Senate.
I send my best wishes to you and to President Hollande as well as to the people of France.
The future is bright and will remain so with the respect that he has shown to the Constitution, the grand soul to surmount obstacles, and the spirit of the French people to endure and to thrive.

Prior to the start of the Monday Morning Griffith Park 8:30 AM Walking Group walkabout through Elysian Park, I spoke with Raul at the Griffith Park Community Center.
He mentioned that times were tough for the Homeless in the United States and certainly in Los Angeles.
I listened, as is my wont, and filed this away in my memory.
Our group passed by the Elysian Park Horticultural Center and the Alessandro Elementary School.
Stephanie told me that she was born in Fontaine, South Dakota.
She let me know about the Sierra Mountains, oil rigs in the Central Valley of California, the Kern River, the Tully Fog and the California Water Project.
I learned a great deal in a short amount of time in the company of my new Friend, Stephanie!

3. UNABLE TO SPEAK CLEARLY - IMMEDIATELY TAKE 4 CHILDREN'S ASPIRIN. THE CHILDREN'S ASPIRIN IS EQUAL TO 1 ADULT'S ASPIRIN

IN 1965, I WAS AN ORDERLY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY AT CEDARS OF LEBANON HOSPITAL.
I WAS A JUNIOR AT LOS ANGELES HIGH SCHOOL, THE SUMMER PRIOR TO MY SENIOR YEAR.
IN THE SUMMER OF 1967, I VOLUNTEERED WITH OPERATION CROSSROADS AFRICA AS I FINISHED MY FRESHMAN YEAR AT UCLA. MY GROUP OF 18 COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND CANADA WERE ASSIGNED TO HELP THE VILLAGERS OF THE VILLAGE OF MOBAI IN NORTHEASTERN SIERRA LEONE.
THEY HAD NO HOSPITAL FOR A 400 MILE RADIUS SURROUNDING THE VILLAGE AND ONLY ONE DOCTOR, DR. BOCKARI M. KOBBA.
DR. KOBBA PERFORMED SURGERY IN THE VILLAGE OF MOBAI WITHOUT THE USE OF ANAESTHESIA.
NONE OF THE PATIENTS CRIED OUT IN PAIN BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE PAIN KILLERS.
THEY ACCEPTED THE SURGERY BECAUSE THEY KNEW THAT THIS WAS IN THEIR INTEREST.
I OBSERVED THIS.

THE IMMENSE RESPONSIBILITY AND SINCERE DEVOTION TO ENHANCING THE BEAUTY OF THE SURROUNDINGS THAT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS BRING TO THEIR COMMUNITIES IS AMPLY DEMONSTRATED HERE BY THE LOS FELIZ IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION.
I NOTICED THE YEARS OF MAINTENCE BY THE LOS FELIZ IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION, 1940 - 1998, INSOFAR AS THE MONUMENT TO WILLIAM MULHOLLAND IS CONCERNED. THIS SHOWS A TOTAL COMMITTMENT OVER THE LONG TERM IN ANYONE'S BOOK. I KNOW THAT THIS IS MERELY ONE OF THEIR PROJECTS OF HUNDREDS, PERHAPS.
IT IS RATHER EASY TO CONSTRUCT AN EDIFICE; HOWEVER, THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENT IN THE EQUATION IS THE MAINTENANCE THAT IS CRUCIAL TO HAVE IT BE IN THE BEST SHAPE POSSIBLE FOR GENERATIONS OF FAMILIES TO ENJOY. IT IS MY FERVENT HOPE THAT THE ENTIRE CITY OF LOS ANGELES AS WELL AS HOLLYWOOD PROPER, FULLY UTILIZE AND ENHANCE THE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS TO BRING ABOUT MUCH NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS IN EVERY COMMUNITY'S SPHERE OF INTEREST.
3 SEPTEMBER 2012 LABOR DAY MARK LEVENSTEIN MENTIONED THE BIRDS IN THE RIVER. ONE CAN SEE A FAMILY OF BIRDS SLOWLY ENJOYING THEMSELVES IN THE CENTER OF THE LOS ANGELES RIVER. THE PARENTS ARE SHOWING THEIR CHILDREN HOW TO FISH AND ALSO HOW TO SURVIVE AT A HIGHER LEVEL IN LOS ANGELES.
3 SEPTEMBER 2012 I THOUGHT THAT THIS PARTICULAR IMAGE WAS UNREAL; HOWEVER, THE BIRD MOVED AND THEN I REALIZED THAT IT WAS ALSO PART OF THE VILLAGE ON THE RIVER FOR THE BIRDS OF LOS FELIZ.
3 SEPTEMBER 2012 I LIKE THE WAY THAT THE SPRAY FROM THE SPRINKLER COVERS AN AREA COMPLETELY WITHOUT LEAKING OR SPRAYING ONTO THE SIDEWALK. THE COMMUNITY OF LOS FELIZ PAYS STRICT ATTENTION TO GREAT WATER CONSERVATION TECHNIQUES. PERHAPS MANY MORE PEOPLE CAN LEARN FROM THIS AND BRING THE KNOWLEDGE INTO THEIR OWN HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATIONS AND NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS.
3 SEPTEMBER 2012 I ENVISION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARNING ABOUT FLORA AND FAUNA IN THIS SPACE AS WELL AS ENJOYING THE LANDSCAPE AND LAYOUT ON AN ARCHITECTURAL LEVEL.
3 SEPTEMBER 2012 GOOD USE OF RECYCLED MATERIAL TO BRIDGE THE ROCK FORMATION, THUS CREATING A PLAYFUL AREA FOR CHILDREN TO USE AS A HIDEAWAY OR MERELY TO GET OUT OF THE SUN FOR A WHILE.
3 SEPTEMBER 2012 BY HAVING SCHOOL OUTINGS, ONE CAN QUICKLY GRASP THE SCIENTIFIC NAMES OF PLANTS AND TREES IN REAL LIFE, THUS PROMPTING FURTHER STUDY AND RESEARCH ON THEIR OWN UPON RETURNING TO THE CLASSROOM. IN THIS CASE, THE CLASSROOM IS NATURE AND THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS.
3 SEPTEMBER 2012 I GRADUATED FROM LOS ANGELES HIGH SCHOOL IN THE SUMMER OF 1966. THIS CALIFORNIA SAGEBRUSH, ARTEMISIA CALIFORNICA, REMINDS ME OF OUR CLASS NAME FOR LOS ANGELES HIGH SCHOOL.
OUR SUMMER OF 1966 GRADUATING CLASS WAS "THE ARTEMESIANS" . . . I THINK.
3 SEPTEMBER 2012 MARK LEVENSTEIN HAS BEEN MY TOUR GUIDE AND INSTRUCTOR IN THE PARTICULAR GOINGS ON IN THIS UNIQUE COMMUNITY DURING OUR GRIFFITH PARK COMMUNITY CENTER 8:30 AM WALKING GROUP WALKABOUTS. WE HAVE SEEN MANY PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN UNDERTAKEN, DIRECTED PLANS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE AS WELL AS WATER RECLAMATION PLANS THAT ARE BEING IMPLEMENTED THROUGH NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS AND NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL THING TO SEE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
I SAW QUITE A BIT OF THIS ATTENTION TO NATURE IN LONDON AND SWEDEN DECADES AGO. (SIDE NOTE: MOST EUROPEAN COUNTRIES HAVE CLOSE TO A 100 PERCENT TURNOUT FOR ALL ELECTIONS BECAUSE THEY HAVE HAD FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE WITH THE LOSS OF LIBERTY THROUGH THE NEVER ENDING WARS IN THEIR HISTORY)
IT IS GOOD TO SEE RESPONSIBILITY ON A CIVIC AND LOCAL LEVEL TAKING ROOT HERE IN LOS ANGELES.
I THOUGHT THAT THE USE OF BRICKS WAS WELL THOUGHT OUT. MARK THOUGHT SO TOO, AND, IN FACT, BROUGHT THIS TO MY ATTENTION IN THE FIRST INSTANCE AS WE FOLLOWED OUR TEAM OF LADIES AS THEY DISAPPEARED MILES AHEAD OF US IN THE DISTANCE.

AS I READ THE SIGN IT SEEMS THAT THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES WAS RESISTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS PROJECT AND WAS FORCED TO ADHERE TO THE DICTATES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE PROPOSITION ONLY AFTER A LAWSUIT WAS THREATENED BY THE SANTA MONICA BAYKEEPER. MANY ENTITIES HAD TO JOIN FORCES TO ENJOIN THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES TO LIVE UP TO A LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT THAT THE VOTERS OF THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES HAD APPROVED.
I HAVE THE UNEASY SENSE THAT, IF MY HUNCH IS CORRECT, THERE ARE MANY OTHER INSTANCES WHERE THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES HAS PLAYED FAST AND LOOSE WITH ITS OBLIGATIONS TO THE CITIZENS OF LOS ANGELES.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD SIGN.
ALL THE MORE REASON TO HAVE A CITY CONTROLLER ON THE JOB AS MAYOR OF LOS ANGELES FROM DAY ONE.

3 SEPTEMBER 2012 THIS OUTDOOR COMBINATION LAWN AND FLOWER GARDEN CAUGHT MY FANCY, ESPECIALLY SINCE VERY LITTLE RAIN FALLS IN LOS ANGELES. THE SPACE IS INTRINSICALLY PLEASING TO THE EYE, MY EYES AT LEAST, AND THIS CREATES FOOD FOR THE BUTTERFLIES, BUMBLE BEES AND BIRDS THAT NEED FOOD.
3 SEPTEMBER 2012 TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY.
I ARRIVED EARLIER THAN THE ENTIRE GROUP, SAW BICYCLISTS AT THE WILLIAM MULHOLLAND MEMORIAL AND TOOK A BATCH OF PICTURES BEFORE SETTING OUT ON OUR MONDAY MORNING 8:30 AM WALK. I SUPPOSE THAT I AM NOW A "REGULAR" WITH THE GRIFFITH PARK COMMUNITY CENTER 8:30 AM WALKING GROUP, THANKS TO MARK LEVENSTEIN.
AN ADDED PLUS FOR TODAY WAS THE RE-INTRODUCTION OF WALKING GROUP MEMBERS, ANNA AND ROSE WITH ME AT THE BEGINNING OF OUR JOURNEY.
ANNA IS IN RED, IN THE LEAD, AMONG THE GROUP OF 8 WALKERS AND WILLIE, THE DOG. LAST WEEK, WE WERE 16. THIS WEEK, WE ARE 8 AND A HALF . . . . NOT TOO SHABBY!

THIS TIME, I MET ADANA, THE CURRENT WAITRESS, AND BENNY, HER ASSISTANT.
BREAKFAST WAS 2 SCRAMBLED EGGS, 2 SAUSAGE LINKS, 1 LEMONADE LARGE, GRAPE JELLY, AND STRAWBERRY JELLY, BUTTERED WHEAT TOAST ( 2 ).
I ALSO MET A FEW OTHER DINERS AS WELL AS ANDRE CROSS AND HIS BEAUTIFUL WIFE, SYLVIA, A LOVELY COUPLE WHO WERE ARRIVING AS I WAS LEAVING THE LOS FELIZ CAFE. WE ENJOYED A GOOD CONVERSATION AND I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THE LOS FELIZ CAFE EATING EXPERIENCE TO THEM SINCE THEY ASKED FOR MY DINING RECOMMENDATIONS.

I CONFESSED, I MUST ADMIT, TO ACHIEVING THE LOWEST GRADE IN THE HISTORY OF AFRO AMERICAN HISTORY.

NOW THAT I THINK MORE DEEPLY ABOUT THESE LOVELY GREAT WALL OF CHINA TREES, BUSHES, IF YOU WILL, I THINK THAT EVERY HOME SHOULD BE SURROUNDED BY THEM. THEY ADD IMMEASURABLY TO THE IMPREGNABLE FOREST FORT LIKE ATMOSPHERE OF THE WELLINGTON SQUARE.
THESE BUSHES ARE MAGNIFICENT!

I injured my right leg in Trinidad, Colorado on November 24, 2012. I will write more later. I need to gather 500 Petitions so that my name: Thomas Marshall Penick can be WRITTEN DOWN IN THE MARCH 5, 2013 LOS Angeles City Council District 13 HOLLYWOOD race.
I HAD been leading the pack of 12 other Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dums for 2 years.
Now, I am hobbling along, so to speak.
Luckily everyone who has the barest modicum of intelligence knows me and have known about me for years.
I briefly put my hat in the ring in 1987 for the Los Angeles City Council District 10 Contest in the Mid City District of Los Angeles. Now, I live in Hollywood.
I have lived in Hollywood since 1 September 1994 Presidential Suite 118 Hollywood, CA Selby Hotel.

Generally, I do not add people; although I invariably do, because there is something about the person that pleases me. Sometimes, it is a comment, observation, or the pictures that they comment upon, or post on FB.
You came to my attention when you alerted Maggie about a person who you thought would make a “good fit” with her and her sensibilities, outlook, frame of reference, so to speak. This note to Maggie was brilliant in that I thought that you demonstrated compassion, caring, roadcrossing, and trying to bridge boundaries and be of help to two people. I thought that your gesture was magnificent, to put it simply and to be as straightforward as possible. Throughout my life, I have done the same. Usually, I discovered that those who were the recipients merely received the benevolence, the gift, without any thought of passing along the kindness.
In this vein, I am highly pleased to begin our friendship.
I did not realize that you were married until today. I viewed the 13 photographs that you posted of the significant people in your life. I have many thousands of friends on the internet. I am pleased that we have connected. In my life, I communicate with a few hundred people on a rather regular basis; however, it is NOT a daily basis. Over the course of a year, my closer associates, of whom I highly value, know that I will be in contact with them as they know how to contact me.
At times, I write a lot.
Other times, I do not.
With you, Amy, I sensed a soul that I would like to be in your peripheral vision, so to speak.
The pictures of your daughter are quite lovely.
I found that my eyes kept drifting to you.
I think that you and your husband are beautiful people.
I say that in honesty and the purity that resides within me.
Generally, I communicate more frequently with men, more so than with women, generally; however, I made a concerted, deliberate decision to reach you. I enjoy your comments on others comments. I had been thinking about you for the past few days; however, I was not able to get my mouse to sync with the keyboard until today. The mouse needed 2 batteries and that is why it was not functioning properly. Yes, Dearest Amy! From the heart, I have found that the sentiments that you expressed are what I felt about you when you made the first comment that caught my attention. It pleases me to find others who are on the same path of sharing the gifts that they have been bestowed with, upon others. It reflects you. It reflects them. It beams directly and, sometimes, indirectly to tangential, perhaps, peripheral readers of these exchanges. These help to make the world the special place that it has remained. I am happy to be friends with you. I enjoy these interchanges, a lot! I was in somewhat of a despair a few days ago, when the thought hit me that there are many people that I have encountered that do know know how to carry on a conversation. I suppose that I have lived a somewhat cloistered, hermetical life, absent the interchanges with people who would have alerted me that this is par for the course. At any rate, it is good to discover a caring person who extends herself for her friends and significant others who would benefit by knowing that person. Yes, these are what life is about. I spend time speaking with my dearest 7th grade teacher about life now that we are no longer student / teacher. she is a catholic nun in retirement, born on black sunday 1929, the onset of the great depression and crash of wall street. My other nun, Sr. Mary Francis Harrington, is close to 90 and sits on the board of directors of 4 companies in cleveland, ohio. All 3 of you ladies essentially speak of the same.
I learn much from the conversations that we have.

Actually, I communicate more frequently with everybody on Facebook, there is no distinction between men or women in terms of that; however, on the Google YouTube, I find that the men like my films a LOT. On Linkedin, everybody likes my activity, I suppose. On vk.com, there are 2 Russian men who I put everything down when I hear from them because they are immensely interesting, deeply spiritual and quite talented. One in particular is a sculptor. The other is a writer whose antecedents extend to the classics of world literature. On the Google YouTube, it took 3 months before I got my 1st subscriber. They did not know what to make of my creative works. I make films for the international audience. They were used to seeing snippets. They were getting masterpieces of early creativity and did not realize it, nor, did they know how to respond, much less what to say.
It became a teaching moment for me, equally as important, it became another major learning module for me. I had to teach them how to evaluate that which they saw. It did not matter whether they were positive or negative. This served as conversation starters. We were able to begin to communicate with one another; thus, the rest of the time was spent in a continuous dialog.
This was my intention:
I achieved the basic foundation. From that point, we moved forward.

I injured my right leg in Trinidad, Colorado on November 24, 2012. I will write more later. I need to gather 500 Petitions so that my name: Thomas Marshall Penick can be WRITTEN DOWN IN THE MARCH 5, 2013 LOS Angeles City Council District 13 HOLLYWOOD race.
I HAD been leading the pack of 12 other Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dums for 2 years.
Now, I am hobbling along, so to speak.
Luckily everyone who has the barest modicum of intelligence knows me and have known about me for years.
I briefly put my hat in the ring in 1987 for the Los Angeles City Council District 10 Contest in the Mid City District of Los Angeles. Now, I live in Hollywood.

Generally, I do not add people; although I invariably do, because there is something about the person that pleases me. Sometimes, it is a comment, observation, or the pictures that they comment upon, or post on FB.
You came to my attention when you alerted Maggie about a person who you thought would make a “good fit” with her and her sensibilities, outlook, frame of reference, so to speak. This note to Maggie was brilliant in that I thought that you demonstrated compassion, caring, roadcrossing, and trying to bridge boundaries and be of help to two people. I thought that your gesture was magnificent, to put it simply and to be as straightforward as possible. Throughout my life, I have done the same. Usually, I discovered that those who were the recipients merely received the benevolence, the gift, without any thought of passing along the kindness.
In this vein, I am highly pleased to begin our friendship.
I did not realize that you were married until today. I viewed the 13 photographs that you posted of the significant people in your life. I have many thousands of friends on the internet. I am pleased that we have connected. In my life, I communicate with a few hundred people on a rather regular basis; however, it is NOT a daily basis. Over the course of a year, my closer associates, of whom I highly value, know that I will be in contact with them as they know how to contact me.
At times, I write a lot.
Other times, I do not.
With you, Amy, I sensed a soul that I would like to be in your peripheral vision, so to speak.
The pictures of your daughter are quite lovely.

I had been thinking about you for the past few days; however, I was not able to get my mouse to sync with the keyboard until today. The mouse needed 2 batteries and that is why it was not functioning properly. Yes, Dearest Amy! From the heart, I have found that the sentiments that you expressed are what I felt about you when you made the first comment that caught my attention. It pleases me to find others who are on the same path of sharing the gifts that they have been bestowed with, upon others. It reflects you. It reflects them. It beams directly and, sometimes, indirectly to tangential, perhaps, peripheral readers of these exchanges. These help to make the world the special place that it has remained. I am happy to be friends with you. I enjoy these interchanges, a lot! I was in somewhat of a despair a few days ago, when the thought hit me that there are many people that I have encountered that do know know how to carry on a conversation. I suppose that I have lived a somewhat cloistered, hermetical life, absent the interchanges with people who would have alerted me that this is par for the course. At any rate, it is good to discover a caring person who extends herself for her friends and significant others who would benefit by knowing that person. I wondered whether one discovers that beauty can be unsettling to others in that they apparently admire that which is beautiful, yet, at the same time, want to distance themselves because they "feel" that they do not measure up.

Yes, these are what life is about. I spend time speaking with my dearest 7th grade teacher about life now that we are no longer student / teacher. she is a catholic nun in retirement, born on black sunday 1929, the onset of the great depression and crash of wall street. My other nun, Sr. Mary Francis Harrington, is close to 90 and sits on the board of directors of 4 companies in cleveland, ohio. All 3 of you ladies essentially speak of the same.
I learn much from the conversations that we have.

Actually, I communicate more frequently with everybody on Facebook, there is no distinction between men or women in terms of that; however, on the Google YouTube, I find that the men like my films a LOT. On Linkedin, everybody likes my activity, I suppose. On vk.com, there are 2 Russian men who I put everything down when I hear from them because they are immensely interesting, deeply spiritual and quite talented. One in particular is a sculptor. The other is a writer whose antecedents extend to the classics of world literature.
