A HUMBLE REQUEST FROM THE NEIGHBORS REGARDING STRICT ADHERENCE TO THE LAWS AND BYLAWS OF NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS:
per Thomas Marshall Penick
I visited a dear Neighbor over the course of 10 years. Prior to that, I was able to see a major thorough fare by sitting on her porch and gazing to the North. Over the course of 10 years, a picket line of bushes slowly began to rise higher and higher, eventually, totally obscuring the view from the porch and obliterating views of the neighboring homes in the immediate vicinity in an enclave of fashionable homes, numbering 424 households over 4 city blocks.
After listening to my dear Neighbor's complaints as the years merrily rolled along, and noticing that my Neighbor's complaints to her City Council person had been totally ignored, after bringing this urgent matter to the attention of my dear Neighbor's Liason Officer with the Los Angeles City Councilman and discovering that the Liason person was ABSOLUTELY misleading, dissembling, and absolutely committed to obstructing forward movement in the elimination of the offending bushes that had grown to over 30 feet tall, the topmost sections of the bushes higher than the rooftops of the neighboring homes.
I took action.
I spotted the Los Angeles City Councilman just before he had been appointed to an even higher position within the Los Angeles City Council. He is now the PRESIDENT of the Los Angeles City Council and his name is Herb Wesson.
I brought the matter to his undivided attention before he departed for his duties in downtown Los Angeles, on, presumably, highly crucial city business.
I pointed out the bushes that now resembled the GREAT WALL of CHINA, or THE BERLIN WALL, were totally blocking the view of half of an entire city block in a residential neighborhood in an upscale neighborhood in Los Angeles.
I carefully and meticulously enumerated the offenses that this entailed for the Los Angeles City Councilman to fully appreciate and alleviate:
1. There is a tremendous drop off in the value of residential real estate as a result of this lack of compliance to Neighborhood standards.
2. There is an impossibility for members of the Los Angeles Police Department to get a full picture of the entire block when they cruise by on an East to West thoroughfare and glance towards the South part of the street involved.
3. There is a tremendous risk of fire leapfrogging from one residence to another if there were a fire in the home next to it.
4. There is a very real danger that lurkers could hide behind the 30 feet tall bushes and rob the unsuspecting homeowner upon arriving at the residence and no one in the neighborhood would be aware of this.
5. This is in complete and total violation of the Neighborhood Charter by which this particular Neighborhood had decided upon to ensure that the beauty of the Neighborhood would be retained and maintained, regardless of who owned the property in succeeding property transfers of ownership.
He peered to the South, his upper torso slanted at a 30 degree angle and stated, verbatim, "I believe you are are right."
I stood upright, held my ground, perpendicular to the Earth, as is my wont, and stated, verbatim, "I KNOW THAT I AM RIGHT!"
At that point, he said: "Can you give me until after the first of the year, since my Inspectors are on holiday and will not return until the 1st week of January?"
I said "YES!"
6 weeks later, the 30 feet tall bushes had been cut down to the required 3 feet level as mandated in the Neighborhood Charter of that Neighborhood.

A HUMBLE REQUEST FROM MY FRIEND, KEVIN JOHNSON, WHEELCHAIR BOUND - HOLLYWOOD DISTRICT
per Thomas Marshall Penick
Perhaps the most distressing part of being an individual who has a disability is in getting insensitive and cold store cashiers and helpers who treat the disabled with nonchalance, ill tempered impatience, contempt, evil spirited disgust, and worse.
My Friend, Kevin Johnson of Hollywood, wheelchair bound, has had first hand experience with this problem on an ongoing basis.
He asked me, specifically, to address this and bring it to everyone's attention.
I am doing as Kevin Johnson requested.
Please treat the disabled among us with the utmost care and respect. All of us share the same planet. The buying power of his money is the same as anyone else's greenbacks.
The absolutely MOST important thing to remember is that Mr. Kevin Johnson is a HUMAN BEING, and please note, TREAT ANIMALS AND ALL LIVING THINGS WITH RESPECT. ALL OF US HAVE A HEART, EYES, SOUL, SPIRIT, AND HIGH INTELLIGENCE!
